Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
And yet when we were struggling first half, with Southampton clearly targeting literally every attack to Masuaku side, did Moyes (or to a lesser extent the captain) consider such a tactical break in play to organise a change and tell the team how to combat their tactics?

Saw him shout a few times 60 yards across the pitch. Thus letting their manager know exactly what was being changed.

Then saw him wait 45 mins before any changes, when it was obvious that something needed changing after only 15.

We had them pinned back and rattled, Broja went down. We put the ball out. We lost all momentum and a couple of minutes later the same Broja is streaking away from our defence.

Stupid cunts

Wasn't a penalty! Once again BENT VAR manipulates the table.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Yes VAR was crap and they time wasted, but we were our own worst enemies making them look a good team, giving the ball away, poor defending and poor crosses/shooting (the two times we got it right, we scored...could be a lesson there chaps). deserved nothing.

Still we are DOWN to 6th. a few years ago that would have been a ridiculous notion. So its not all bad, but we do need a result, just to take the pressure off and shut the knicker wetters up

Daveg

I was furious when they kicked it out for roja (or whatever his nae is).

Clearly not injured and its not rhe first time we've done that.
Brentford was another example they did it a few times.

For their penalty, Dawson ultimately makes the foul but he's in totally the wrong area of the pitch to where he should be because....

Diop has stepped up and sold himself because....

Masuaku is 20 yards out of position trying to win a header he fails to win by a long long way.

Everything is connected to everything on a football pitch.

Appalling result, theyve not won in donkeys and away from home even longer.

First half was shocking, the 3 behind Bowen yet again have 0 goal threat. Fornals' form has fallen off of a cliff....Vlasic thought was better again but still hardly any goal threat

Arthur fucking shite again, Dawson on the ball was terrible

2nd half much better, but the 2 goals we gave away were so poor. Think the pen was a pen watching MOTD last night, Dawson clatters into him in the box and dont think the contact outside is a foul. Then at 3-2 the only one really giving it a go as usual is Dec

Our attacking players are in a massive dip, and its too hard to win football matches when that happens

Watford now is must win, Moyes has a real job on his hand to pick up some points in the next 3

Oh and we should be looking at Borja in the summer was very impressed with him, and Ward-Prowse is perfect Noble replacement

Been mentioned a few times on here before about the Soucek having less of an impact on games owing to Dec having that more advanced role. That or loss of form are not enough potatoe.salad.

Be interesting to see how he plays tomorrow without Dec being there.

Never understand football,as on paper you'd think these two playing together would smash the midfield...but one seems to cancel the other out..

Anyway . What do I know.

Mex , your last paragraph was unnecessary. People who are pessimistic re what has been served up in recent weeks and with our long term injuries are entitled to their opinion .
Would you rather they were indifferent !

We were sloppy and lethargic & got what we deserved .... nothing.
That said we dont seem to take a trick with VAR. Can you imagine that pen being given against Liverpool or Man City?

Moyes team selection and substitutions havent helped.
I'd not be selecting Masuaku or Yarmolenko in the squad let alone have them on the pitch at the end.
I still think part of our VAR woes is that Moyes is far too passive and is bending over for these clowns.
The reality is you have to complain and moan to get any justice.
Unfortunate but true. Recent decisions like the pen at Burnley, Coufals sending off and the pen yestersay have been taken with no complaint.
Which is why they will continue.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
The VAR ref gets to look at any incident from the start of the passage of play and at various angles. He then shows the ref one short clip without including the previous contact outside the box, which completely changes how the incident looked. He can't make an informed decision based on that.

As for Masuaku, have we ever had a worse player who's made more than 100 apps for us?

Mex Martillo 11:15 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Someone on match of the day made an interesting point, saying VAR were wrong to show the referee just the last part of the foul when Dawson finally fell and should have shown the entire foul from start to falling over. Just showing the part in the penalty area influenced the referee to give the penalty rather than a free kick.

I thought Vlasic was poor, didn't do very much and certainly wasn't helping the defense enough. Soucek, Dawson and Rice were at fault for all of the goals against us. Just too slow to close people down and sloppy tackling. Although, I did think Soucek didn't do much wrong to give the free kick from which they scored.
I guess I am biased, but for a few games now I feel we don't get free kicks for stuff the other teams do.

Sad to see the knicker wetting miserable wankers feel empowered by our dip in form to spout their drivel doom and gloom predictions. It's not supporting is it? Moyes will sort it out and shut them up again.

Mixture of injuries, bad decisions and some players off form , hard to take but the club need to back Moyes in January.

Pedro 10:32 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Never a penalty. He falls over following legal contact from Dawson which was outside the box.
If anything the second part was the striker falling onto Dawson.
I thought var was there was situations missed by the ref.

In this case the ref saw it all and made his decision. Just because the ref in studio thinks it’s a penalty shouldn’t be reason for giving it. The ref on the fields opinion is the one that matters.
Also does the linesman have any say now? He had best view if it.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Just s thought maybe go back to Rice sitting in front of the back 4 and Soucek playing further forward.
Less of a showcase for Rice but maybe better for the team.
Also if a senior squad player can't cut it when they get the chance what's the point in them.
And finally the lack of cover up front is now just ridiculous, fuck me anyone is better no-one

Where we finish this season (especially after failing to sign another striker). was always going to come down to what we do in January.

The fact that we've had terrible luck with injuries/decisions which has then caused a big dip in form, just makes it that much more important, that we bring reinforcements in.

Yea, yea. That's what I keep reading reading after every defeat/draw. We lost at home to Southampton. I'll have my thoughts on how I see the season panning out, and you crack on with your nonsense, sorry thoughts..

Capitol Man 5:53 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
That’s nonsense though - there are going to be ups and down in form - no guarantee that we will push through it - but it’s not a done deal yet. If we had no dips in form we’d win the title, and I’m not sure anyone thinks we are there.

We’ve lost three of our starting back four - that’s going to have an impact at all clubs.

Yes we need to turn things around on recent form but writing off the rest of the season at this stage is just knicker wetting.

Manuel 5:41 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
The reality is that this is going to pan out to be a very mediocre season and we should realistically forget any thoughts of top 6 and Europe. The home form is abysmal, we have either lost or drew way too many games to sides below us. You ain't having a good season based on that type of home form, not a chance. The away form that was getting us out of jail earlier in the season now seems a bit of a distant memory.

Not really sure where we go from here as it's going to take a big turnaround in form and individual players stepping up to the plate EVERY WEEK to replicate last season. I don't see it happening. Also seems that other teams have worked us out and Moyes doesn't have a plan B.

Still using Yarmalenko towards ends of games tells you a lot, will the penny ever drop with Moyes? He rotates Benrahma and Fornals based on nothing except just taking turns, and he doesn't know what to do with Vlasic. Obviously injuries at the back haven't helped, but the likes of Dawson, Diop, Johnson etc, should still be able deputies. Certainly not an excuse to ship 3 goals to a poor Southampton side.

''What I dont get is , if the VAR people sitting in an office cant make a call why tell the Ref to look at the monitor?
If they cant make a call surely that means no clear and obvious mistake has been made and the original decision should stand ?''

It's really not clear, is it. Has there ever been a case of VAR have told the ref it's a pen? Don't think so, and maybe that isn't even meant to happen? But when they tell the ref to look at the monitor in reality that IS VAR telling the ref they think it's a pen, or a sending off, etc. When the ref goes over to the monitor you know exactly what will happen. Farcical.

I would like to see VAR just used for offsides, with that and goal line tech that would be good enough, never gonna happen though.

One bonus of the Rice suspension is he won't have to continually run around covering Masuaku. It's an injury waiting to happen.
